SHS WEEKLY BULLETIN
March 25, 2024 Volume 28
Good Morning SHS Staff, Students, Parents and Guardians!
March 25 2024
Dear Stevenson High School Students, Parents, and Staff:
As we head into Spring Break Pre-week, it is all hands on deck! We all agree that spring break is important to staff and students. The importance of staying focused through the break is crucial. Upon returning from break, our PLC work continues as well as our focus on teaching and learning. I don't want to sound repetitive, but the importance of being in school, in a seat, and being totally engaged, well it matters. I have appreciated the support, but as we head into the end of the year it continues to be a top priority for me. Thank you to all of our stakeholders who assist in making attendance a priority. Thank you!
Respectfully,
William Schwan
SHS Principal

Riley Hershberger
Dear, Stevenson Carson School District Families
Riley Hershberger is a Student Assistance Professional working with Stevenson High School and Wind River Middle School students to prevent substance use and abuse in our school and in our community. Children and teens who use alcohol and other drugs are at higher risk than adults for developing short and long-term physical, developmental and emotional problems. This is because their brains are still developing and more vulnerable to the effects of drugs. Riley Hershberger utilizes the research-based Project SUCCESS model, which offers a combination of interventions designed to meet the unique needs of Stevenson High School and Wind River Middle School.
o Early alcohol and other drug education and prevention in classrooms and for school wide-activities
o Screening and early intervention services to students and their families
o Referrals to treatment providers
o Help with transitioning back to school for students who have had alcohol or other drug problems
o Coordination with One Prevention Alliance (OPA)
Riley Hershberger provides a variety of support groups for students who have concerns or issues that may interfere with their optimal academic progress. The groups focus on the development of skills and self-confidence necessary for students to make positive choices in their lives related to: school success, resolving conflicts, coping with grief, peer pressure, self-esteem, anger management, and drug and alcohol use. The purpose of these time-limited groups is to help students develop skills necessary to realize their academic and personal potentials.

Tips From Ms. Freed
TIPS FOR WELLBEING
Manage your expectations. Stay in the present moment (mindfulness) with gratitude for the little things. List them.
Remember you can’t control other people or events, but you can adjust your expectations, reactions and attitude. This can make all the difference for you.
Practice Self-Awareness. Check in with yourself. What are you truly feeling, rate yourself and if you get to a certain level of discomfort, Take a Break! Write down your thoughts, allow yourself time to feel.
Have a Plan B- Share it with someone, in case you need to call them. Take a walk, self-sooth in a healthy way, listen to music, step away from the screen and into nature.
Breathe- Practice, practice, practice. Long exhales will lower your stress response.
Connect. Find a way to engage with people, greet a stranger, be welcoming, compliment someone, offer a hand in service.
Treat yourself with the love you would offer to your best friend.
